The Thing About AACSB Online MBA Programs
There was one company who recently mentioned that they will only be shouldering tuitions, as part of their assistance program, if the person obtained an MBA from an institution that has the AACSB seal of approval. Even if you got an online degree, if the school is AACSB certified, you will get support for your tuition. A business degree adorned with the AACSB label will be highly valuable for opening doors in almost any competitive business environment.
The AACSB is the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International. Voluntary and private in origin, this particular certifications agency works not only with business institutions but those that delve into accounting as well. What you have here is the watchdog of many business schools and they have been operating since the early 1900s.
Due to this organization's consistency and longevity, many esteemed Ivy League business schools receive accreditation from the AACSB. From Stanford to Duke, there are plenty of educational facilities that have AACSB accredited MBA programs under their belt. Duke has an online MBA program which has also received the seal of approval from the AACSB.
However, one should note that universities do not necessarily need an AACSB accreditation to offer an MBA degree program, be it online or on-campus. More than fifty percent of accredited programs are not working within the standards set by the AACSB according to a recently conducted study on the matter. While an AACSB accredited online MBA is the gold standard of distance learning MBA school accreditation, only about 30% of business schools in the US have AACSB accreditation.
It is possible for institutions to provide quality education to their students even if they have not been accredited by the AACSB. For institutions that do not follow the standards of the AACSB, a lot of them are actually providing students with better study programs. One of the reasons why some institutions prefer not to have this kind of accreditation is because they want to create programs not only for typical students but for working professionals as well.
Another reason to forgo an AACSB online MBA is the price, as the program may cost considerably more than the usual regionally-accredited schools. Today, the average cost of an AACSB accredited online MBA is about $33,000. Without the seal of approval of the AACSB, expect to pay 23000 for an MBA.
You can easily save 10000 when you opt for the conventional MBA. If you are working with limited funds, forego the program with the AACSB seal. It can be more challenging to complete an AACSB accredited MBA course.
Why? The GMAT is something that will be required when it comes to this and you should also have a higher than usual undergraduate GPA. Since these things are required, average students usually fail to comply with the higher admission standards.
When it comes to an AACSB online MBA degree, even if there are numerous requirements that come with the program, you should really look into it. If you are eyeing a competitive job position, you should seriously consider this degree and if you are confident in what you know, the GRE or GMAT requirements should not bother you one bit. Do consider something like this if you can afford the tuition and if the prestige of the program is something that is important to you.
