Why are your pH levels important?

The pH level has great effects in our bodies. Our hormones, digestion, breathing and circulation are all connection to our balanced pH levels. When one's pH has too much acid or alkaline their cells become poisoned by toxic waste and die. An imbalanced pH level can effect your whole body, from your cells, to your heart and even your brain. A proper pH is essential for good health, immunity and to maintain a proper weight.

Understanding the pH Scale

The pH scale goes from 0 to 14. Acidic foods are represented by 0 to 7 and alkalizing foods are represented by 7.1 to 14. The pH balance of the human bloodstream is very important and should be maintained at 7.36.

Acid Verses Alkaline

Foods are classified into two separate categories, alkalizing foods and acidifying foods. The categories are determined by the effect the food has on your pH levels. For example, if you would consume a food and it increases the acidity of your blood, it would be considered an acidic food. Likewise, if you would consume a food and it increases the alkalinity of your blood, it would be considered an alkalizing food.

Generally, many acidic foods can have a negative effect on your body. On the other hand, alkalizing foods are helpful towards fighting diseases and cancers in the body. It is important to watch the percentage of calories in your diet that come from alkalizing foods. Try to keep fifty to seventy-five percent of your daily calories dedicated to alkalizing foods to help keep your body's pH in check and also reduce your risk of acidosis.
